We’re discovering that it’s difficult to live a naturist lifestyle in the UK during the winter. Even indoors, you’d need to have the heating turned up to its maximum, which would cost a fortune and so it was a logical choice to book some winter sun.
There are a number of naturist holidays in the Caribbean, but these don’t come cheap when you factor in the cost of long-haul flights and so flying due south from the UK led us towards looking at the Canary Islands where, even in January and February the temperature was likely to be 20° to 25°C.
On the recommendation of experienced naturists we met at Vritomartis last year, we decided to book with Magnolias Natura a naturist resort in Maspalomas on the south coast of Gran Canaria.
It was therefore we found ourselves in mid-february, swapping the cold and damp of the UK for some sun in the Canary Islands. We would usually book a hire car to explore, but on this occasion we booked a taxi through Magnolias Natura. What a treat, as we were met by our driver (and a new, luxury Mercedes) who, after a short 30 minute drive, brought us to our destination.
We were warmly welcomed at reception and taken to our well-appointed bungalow. Here we found a clean and tidy lounge / kitchen, spacious bedroom and bathroom. As it was lunchtime, we quickly dropped our clothes and made our way to the on-site bar / restaurant.
Over an excellent lunch, we met some of the other guests and soon settled in.
After lunch, we made the short 2 minute walk to a small supermarket to buy some essentials and returned to the resort where we spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing around the pool.

Happy hour at the bar from 4pm, back to our bungalow for early evening and then back to the restaurant for a meal and a bottle of wine to complete our first day in Gran Canaria.
The next few days followed a similar routine, breakfast at 9am, lunch and dinner, punctuated by lying in the sun and swimming in the pool. However we did walk into Maspalomas for the occasional meal and to visit Europe’s largest naturist beach, which has to be seen to be believed. We were aware of the reputation of some visitors to the dunes behind the beach, but we did not venture there and did not see any unwanted behaviour elsewhere.
All too soon, our short break came to an end, but as respite from the UK winter weather Gran Canaria and Magnolias Natura certainly delivered everything we were looking for and more besides.
