The first Saturday in May has been designated World Naked Gardening Day, which in 2023 fell on 6th May.
As keen gardeners, this was a date in the diary which we were more than happy to embrace. Thankfully the weather, in our area of the UK at least, was warm enough to get outside and join in the fun.
It seems that the media also were keen to join in the fun with many news outlets reporting on the rise of naturism in the UK, remarking on how many of us were quietly going au naturel within the privacy of our gardens.
As the day fell relatively early on in the growing season, it gave us the ideal opportunity to consider how we might grow our hedges and border plants in order to create more private areas within our garden and how we could reposition our garden furniture to avoid causing any embarrassment to our neighbours.
The best part about World Naked Gardening Day was that there were no muddy clothes to put into the washing machine – just a quick shower and we were clan once again, just watch out for those rose thorns!
