We’ve now just spent our first 24 hours staying in a naturist hotel and it’s been an incredibly positive experience.
As we drove to Vritomartis Naturist Resort through the mountains from Chania Airport, Rosie did confess to being nervous. I wasn’t sure whether this was a comment on my driving around the numerous hairpin bends, but she soon admitted her unease about the fact the she was about to bare-all in front of strangers. I also owned up to sharing this unease, but we agreed that we could tackle anything together.
We arrived at the hotel to a warm welcome from the Reception Team and were quickly shown to our room in the main hotel, overlooking the pool and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
Having unpacked what we needed (not much), wrapped ourselves in sarongs (the hotel asks that we cover up while indoors) we headed to the pool.
We were pleased to discover a plentiful supply of vacant sunloungers, placed our towels down and without hesitation, dropped our sarongs. None of our fellow guests noticed, there were no screams and the world hadn’t ended. We were just naked, amongst a number of other, naked people, enjoying the sunshine. After 2 minutes we looked at each other and agreed, this was natural and why hadn’t we taken a naturist holiday sooner.
Things we learned
- No-one cares that you’re naked
- No-one cares what you look like
- Other people have scars, saggy bits and curvy bits
- Everyone is different
… but nobody cares and everybody is respected and respectful.
More about the hotel soon, but for now, I’m too busy doing nothing and wearing nothing!
